NE Indiana - on October 1st 2010 we moved from one residence to another a mile apart. The 2nd (October) NIPSCO natural gas bill arrives and is for $190.00 โ€“ says actual reading (temps were above 65 degrees most of the month), we call and the adjustment is made to actual usage of $43.00. The NIPSCO bill arrives for the house we moved from (no one living there for the period billed), lists actual meter reading, $63.15 โ€“ we called and the adjustment is made for the actual usage that we read $17.43. Indiana & Michigan Electric Company no October bill received from house we moved from. We called had billing faxed so we can pay for house we moved from. We requested the billing address change. November the Indiana & Michigan electric bill arrives โ€“ (no one living there for the period billed) the price is 20.00 higher than the month we lived in the house running the central air. We called โ€“ bill listed actual meter reading, asked why address was not changed said no one called โ€“ I explained that when I called to request the fax copy I changed address. I changed the mailing address again. Asked why bill is higher with no one living there โ€“ said go to the house and read the meter and call us back. We read the meter and called again said the reading we read showed 10,000 KW of usage and the bill would be way high if they changed it โ€“ said go back and read it while we are on the phone โ€“ 3rd call โ€“ no reference that 2 previous calls made, checked to ensure billing address was changed from October, Customer Service Rep demanded my SS #, I refused told her I opened a case and provided the address and the meter # and just wanted to provide the meter reading. The Rep refused, I eventually provided the last 4 of my SS number she took the reading. I asked what the new amount was โ€“ she said Oh that has to go to our processing department so they can recalculate it. A new bill will be mailed. I asked if I would be charged a late fee because the re-bill would received past the actual due date. I was told Oh; we will take care of that. We have gone through this same scenario several times in the past 5 years. Why can't we receive an accurate bill for actual usage? Our labor to call them, read their meters, and calls back to them cost us time and money that should have been the utility employee's job. Apparently the cost savings to the utility to pay those at the top more - - was to cut their staff. Because of the budget cuts to eliminate meter reading every month their customers are faced with doing the job of the meter readers that were let go. To put it more simply in order to prove our actual usage rather than be fraudulently billed we are now forced with the choice of doing the meter readers job or paying what ever the utility wants to list we owe correct or not. Where is the State of Indiana Public Regulatory Commission? Cut out of the budget? 11/22/10 - Wait there is more: The "I & M Electric original bill due 11/22/10" โ€“ We did not receive a new bill โ€“ called to see where it was. โ€“ CS rep said it was rejected because the usage was below average โ€“ HELLO !!! I told you we moved and there should be no usage. Rep told me I needed to go back to the house we moved from 10/1/2010 in the dark at 7:15 PM a mile away and READ their meter FOR THEM Again. Said what I gave them was only 17 cents of usage. I noted that this was the 4th call. The rep said I would be charged a late fee unless I paid the Over charged bill โ€“ I refused and told them to provide what I owe โ€“ I am trying to pay they ARE REFUSING TO PROVIDE WHAT I OWE. We drove to the house with a flashlight โ€“ read the meter โ€“ this is not digital so they choose the space between which numbers the dial is between. I guess having a digital meter in the digital age does not provide enough room for the utility to choose what numbers they want. When rep refused to provide a bill for what I owe I told her I would go up their ladder โ€“ said wait a moment after a 5 minute hold the rep came back on โ€“ said talked to supervisor โ€“ Call Dropped โ€“ I called back again โ€“ had to get the flashlight and my glasses to read the account number โ€“ go through the whole scenario again - explain that this was the 6th call โ€“ 3 calls on 11/12/10 and 3 calls today to get the amount to pay what I owe. I asked if they would pay me interest at the same % rate that the late charge percentage is if I paid their fraudulent bill โ€“ answer was no. Said wait she would talk to supervisor - provided home number in the event the call dropped. Came back on said the supervisor agreed to credit my account and send the bill they should have sent 11/12/10. I asked if I would be charged a late charge โ€“ rep said that was waived and I would be provided with a new due date for one time. We need more regulation to keep big business from taking advantage of the average American.

Monetary Loss: $100.

NIPSCO sold it's ESP program to NICOR "Pivotal Home Solutions". Before then NIPSCO had reputable contractors and actually honored their warranties.

Now it's been run horribly. Pivotal gives the jobs to the contractors that have the lowest claim charge amounts. This means substandard and dangerous repairs by substandard contractors. Nicor owns Nicor Home Solutions in Illinois.

They bought out three HVAC companies to do their substandard work. Look at their online reviews!. I can't believe NIPSCO allows their name to be tarnished by these hacks.

Just wait until they blow up a house NIPSCO! You're certain to be apart of the lawsuit.

I have had a payment i made with nipsco at there paymemt center which was due april 27.So i paid it april 27 early morning.The next day i get a 4$ late fee?? So when i called there customer service they told me it had to be made 2 days pryor to that date so they wouldn't remove the late fee??

What kind of gimmick is this company??

There stealing millions of dollars from there customers.When a bill says a date due and u pay in cash its paid what am i missing here?? This company are crooks and i think im being over billed also .please can someone have this company unvestigated and there unruly customer service practices!!!

Nipsco it worst utility company ever needs to be investigated!I had a gas leak in our apartment building that was reported in november 2015 and wasn't taken care of til june of 2016.When there trucks came out they had 2 trucks 5 workers .We only have 6 apartments in our building.Not on person knocked on ourdoor to let any one know that first of all we had a gas leek or that they were gonna shut pur utilitys off for 4 hours!we didn't even recieve and calls or letters to the situation.That morning i had put a roast in the oven and didnt realize that the oven wasn't working 1 hour later i checked on my roast and seen it wasnt cooking.When i went out side to see what was the problem the workers didnt explain anything i had to ask what was going on and when were they going to let the tenants know?? Also nipsco never reevaluated our gas bills if there was a gas leak for over 6 months either?I called a supervisor since the workers said it wasnt there job to let anyone know?He responded it was an error that there electronic system didnt let the tenants know??Let me tell you thou nipsco will shut your utilitys off for a 30$ overdue bill but they cant contact you when your involved with a gas leak and it being that serious they need to shut of your gas for 4 hours???

i had pretty much same deal more than once with nipsco best thing you can do is get the persons name or id# then talk to their supervisor if they wont let you for some reason like droping the call just call your power commission if everyone with a complaint about nipsco would do that we can make something happen i mean call 5 times aday everyday if needed

they will shut off y our utilities during the winter without batting an eye.
